Perfect gift for a young boy !! Feb 21, 2010 I bought the Razor Dune Buggy for my 8 year old son for Christmas. I looked at other dune buggies but was not at all interested in gas powered ones (way to smelly and dangerous). I was looking for something that did NOT look like a toy (no Fisher Price plastic ride-on electric motorcycle type stuff). But I also did not want something that was too powerful. This Razor buggy is perfect. It goes fast enough to give him a thrill but not so fast to make me worry. It charges up overnight and he can ride it for 45 minutes which is plenty of time. From the picture of the buggy it looks short, like your child's knees will be bent when riding it. Turns out, it fits him just fine (he's average height for an 8 year old), he is perfectly comfortable on it and his knees are not bent too much and they are not in the way of the steering wheel. We've owned it for 2 months and love it. IMPORTANT THING TO KNOW: if the weather is going to be below 32 degrees outside at night you can't leave it outside (or even in the garage). Below-freezing temperature drains the battery life. So we store it in the utility room in the winter at night. It weighs about 70 pounds (not light!) so moving it into our utility room at night is a little cumbersome. It's worth it though b/c he loves it. You can't put a price on his delighted laugh everytime he rides it!
great little dune buggy! Feb 16, 2010 I was quite apprehensive when my husband purchased two of these for our 6 year old grandaughters. I was very pleased when I saw them begin to ride. 10 MPH sounds fast until you see it. The controls are easy for them to reach and handle, the buggies actually stop when you let off the throttle. The charge time is good, at least 30 minutes of ride time. I would not purchase them if I did not have ample and SAFE yard area and HELMENTS ARE A MUST! A lot of fun for our girls!
Razor Dune Buggy Feb 15, 2010 We bought this for xmas for our 6 year old daughter. We took it out of the box, adjusted the tire pressure's and off she went. She loves it rides it almost everyday. There has not been one problem with it. We have a dirt yard and she motors through it all. We would buy this again for sure!
Close to Perfect Feb 01, 2010 This has proven to be a fun and reliable toy for my 5 year old son. He absolutely loves it. The build quality seems solid and my only real concern is the parts supply drying up in the future on things like throttle switches, etc. There are a few niggling things that I would change, but I am sure they would add to the cost of the product.
-The throttle is operated by your thumb, which works fine, but my son is always complaining that his thumb hurts and he has to take a break. I have rotated it up from where it was in the box, and that helped some. I would have a throttle pedal and leave the brake on the steering wheel.
-The dune buggy has no reverse switch. We are going to add something ourselves. There have been a lot of situations where having reverse for a three point turn could have saved frustration. Power Wheels have it, why not this?
-The tires wear very quickly. This stems both from the tire's tread design and that fact that the buggy has a solid rear axle. The axle is a great way of keeping costs down, but the tires could be a better design. Our tires have worn so quickly that I am thinking of buying 8 of them so I can assure a supply for the future. I am also planning on looking for different tire choices from industrial suppliers. There might be something that fits that was originally made for a caster or something.
-Our son is only 40 lbs. and that doesn't activate the rear suspension at all. The spring seems pretty stiff for the application, even with the preload backed all the way off, meaning that the suspension at this point is just a gimmick.
Was the best purchase we ever made for our kids until it stopped working Jan 26, 2010 Stopped working after 9 months. Razor only warranties their stuff for 90 days. Really crappy if you ask me. I'll never buy another razor product.
